The UK-MAB Urban Wildlife Award for Excellence
As a UK contribution towards the international Man and the Biosphere project on urban areas, the UK MAB Urban Forum has been working towards the creation of a network of the best urban nature reserves. The award may also be given to individuals who make an outstanding contribution to urban wildlife conservation.
Reserves and individuals accepted as members of the network will be entitled to use the international MAB logo. The award is a recognition of the valuable contribution the site, or individual, plays in:
- Keeping contact between people and wildlife.
- Making a real contribution to the quality of people’s lives.
It is expected that awarding the MAB logo will:
- Recognise excellent projects.
- Raise standards, partly through the example of excellent projects and partly through the forum's setting of criteria and conditions for making an award.
- Provide a source of information and a basis of study tours for visitors from other countries.
- Provide opportunities for networking between individuals and sites awarded the logo.
